What's Wrong with Video

Video is not archival. For all its convenience, videotape lacks the chemical and mechanical stability to reliably last more than two decades. Video formats are resolution dependent and will require manipulation to try to bring their content to the newest High Definition Video Standards. Assuming this is even possible, the re-mastered product will likely diminish the quality of the content for future use.

With more than 70 different digital and analog tape formats and dozens of manufacturers, hardware incompatibilities are expected over the long term. Remember the home beta player?
